I wrote about Oliver Anthony whose song Rich Men North of Richmond has as they say, ‘gone viral’
Millions more heard him share his story of crying out to God and God hearing that cry in his interview with Joe Rogan. He asked to read some scripture. It was a father’s wisdom to his son from Proverbs 4.
‘Above all else guard your heart for everything you do flows from it……….Let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. Do not turn to the right or to the left, keep your foot from evil.’
This is the simple wisdom millions who have lost their way like Anthony and are wandering aimlessly needed to hear. God moves in mysterious ways to have them hear it thus.
We live in a distraction filled world more than at any other time in history. Little things that cause us to lose focus. (Especially if you are ‘a little’ ADHD like me!) That’s why ‘straight ahead’ of me where I stand at my computer for much of the day I have the ‘post it’ note pictured above……..Keep Your Eyes On The Prize. ‘
‘Make love your aim’ we are told in Corinthians. Only God’s Spirit within can teach us how to hit the mark with each thought, word and deed as we defer continually and repeatedly to him. Life is made up of these thousands of ‘little decisions’ we make every day. As Ronnie Wilson wrote in his song,
‘The prompting of the Spirit is our word of command.’
I once said to the Lord, “I’m not asking for a lot, but maybe each time I am given a platform to minister, whether at a meeting or in a blog, you could give me some ‘little’ encouragement, to reassure me I am ‘on track’. (especially when the opposition rolls out🙂)
When I posted the ‘Oliver Anthony goes viral’ blog……….ironically there was…….no response!
Then a few days later, Hata wrote,
“Thank You’
I realized the power of just two simple words!!!
St.David of Wales final words to his followers were, ‘Be joyful, keep the faith, and do the little things that you have heard and seen me do.”
May we be attuned to the Spirit this day so that we hear without interruption his ‘still small voice’, and make that phone call, return the smile, bring down a laundry basket, offer to pray, maybe just listen, or simply say, ‘Thank You’
