The Bass Player Is Here."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"640\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.paulkyleblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IMG_6055.jpg?resize=640%2C640&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-24048\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.paulkyleblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IMG_6055.jpg?w=640&amp;ssl=1 640w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.paulkyleblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IMG_6055.jpg?resize=300%2C300&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.paulkyleblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/IMG_6055.jpg?resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please click below to listen\u2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=5VMEImuB2bw\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=5VMEImuB2bw<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We crossed the Atlantic ocean in 1994 and in the following few years traversed the American continent discovering and befriending our new homeland and its citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Father continued to give me new songs journaling our journey of Ad-venture across the sea and into this \u2018New World\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Having left behind in Belfast the gifted brothers and sisters who had produced the Come Lord Jesus, Good Mornin\u2019 Dad and O Ireland albums I wondered if these new songs would ever get recorded for posterity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then one Sunday afternoon at St. Brendan\u2019s Launch in Kieran\u2019s Irish pub I met <strong>Tim Lyles<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We got chatting and I discovered he was a guitar teacher, a mean bass guitarist himself, and that on the side he also did some recording work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2018<em>Sure, I\u2019d be up for helping you<\/em>\u2019 He said as I outlined <strong>The Bright Hostage<\/strong> project I had envisioned. Subsequently Tim magnanimously produced the first two albums of the Trilogy, <strong>The Voyage<\/strong> and <strong>The Trek <\/strong>of the Bright Hostage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Arriving in Belfast a few weeks ago I learned of Tim\u2019s death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He had written a piece to be posted on FaceBook letting us know \u201c<em>I\u2019m no longer taking up residence on this planet.\u201d<\/em> \u2026but that he had  moved on \u2019<em>to \u2018the Great Mystery Beyond\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The final paragraph read,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c<em>Anyway, I hope there are many fond memories and funny stories you tell when you think of me. In the salient words of the great Memphis musician Jim Dickinson, \u201cI\u2019m not gone. I\u2019m just dead.\u201d I\u2019ve planted enough surreptitious musical mayhem\u2026.that you should be able to recognize traces of me here and there. Hope you smile and chuckle a bit.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I did indeed smile and chuckle when I read this, recalling the track, \u2018<strong>Shake The Heavens\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To Tim\u2019s chagrin I insisted that his lovable goofing around be preserved in the introductory bars of the final mix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can hear and engage with him having \u2018a really fun time\u2019 in the first 12 seconds of the track\ud83e\udd23<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last Sunday we joined with family here at Every Nation Church, Belfast. I was greeted at the door by Les, wearing this shirt\u2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.paulkyleblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/img_3236-768x1024.jpg?resize=768%2C1024&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-31716\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.paulkyleblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/img_3236.jpg?resize=768%2C1024&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.paulkyleblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/img_3236.jpg?resize=225%2C300&amp;ssl=1 225w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.paulkyleblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/img_3236.jpg?resize=1152%2C1536&amp;ssl=1 1152w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.paulkyleblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/img_3236.jpg?w=1500&amp;ssl=1 1500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(He told me he\u2019d decided to change into this one at the last minute\ud83d\ude42)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The service opened up with a song with the words<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2018<em>There\u2019s joy in the House of the Lord\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I knew Tim was sending us a message\u2026\u2026.that he was now having \u2018a really fun time\u2019 in the Great Mystery Beyond\ud83d\ude00<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As I am typing this blog I\u2019m sitting in a coffee shop \u2026\u2026.and the song comes on<strong><em>\u2026\u2026\u201dI\u2019m knock, knock, knocking on heaven\u2019s door.\u201d<\/em><\/strong>\ud83e\udd23<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026\u2026.I see heaven\u2019s door opening, the angel turns and announces\u2026..<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cRelax. The Bass Player is Here.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Like Nathaniel, Tim was \u2018<strong><em>a man without guile\u2019 <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus told him,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2018<strong><em>You will see heaven opened and the angels ascending and descending on the Son of Man.\u2019<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He was referencing \u2018Jacob\u2019s ladder\u2019 in Genesis 28.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As we shared the communion meal together at the close of the service on Sunday, I reflected on how the Son of Man, our crucified and risen Lord was himself, \u2018Jacob\u2019s ladder\u2019 \u2026\u2026.the bridge connecting these two realms of heaven and earth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tim now knows this more fully than ever accompanying us from the heavenly realm in the song\u2026\u2026..<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2018<em>We now, our feet on earth <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>But <strong>hearts<\/strong> with Him in heaven above <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>He now, by sovereign grace <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Is forming us as one in love. \u2018<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Indeed<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Tim is not gone\u2026\u2026.He is just dead.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026\u2026.and we continue to be connected<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026\u2026.through the \u2018Jacob\u2019s ladder\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026\u2026.that is in our <strong>hearts<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Please click below to listen\u2026. https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=5VMEImuB2bw We crossed the Atlantic ocean in 1994 and in the following few years traversed the American continent discovering and befriending our new homeland and its citizens.
